One of my favorite things about life in Asheville is the endless number of things to do, even for families with small kids. Without a doubt, comicon was the best event we’ve attended this year.

Now I know what you’re thinking. “Maggie, you’re a nerd!” Though true, that isn’t the point. For one thing, Logan’s Lego-loving heart almost burst out of his chest when he first walked through the door. This was a toy store, the likes of which he had never imagined could be real. And he wasn’t the only one, I almost forgot myself when I bumped into Arch Riker from Star Trek TNG (calm down ladies, it was only exceptional cosplay).

Now I’m sure I don’t even have to tell you, the dads were in Dad-heaven. While my man drooled over a few different pieces of original fan art, our friend did actually leave with a new piece for his apartment. I snuck several of the artist’s cards in my pockets for future gift ideas and decorating projects. (This may surprise you, but kids love this stuff.)

My advice for getting the most out of Asheville is to wander off the beaten path. You’ll discover adventures and treasures you never even knew your heart was waiting for.
