Nature is Beautiful, especially as seen through the eye of this photographer.

What makes good photography?

We all have access to a camera during most times of the day. We love snapping photos to share what we are up to. We look at pictures to learn something new, what a friend is doing, a place we would like to travel to, or sometimes its’s as simple as an adorable puppy. When we stop to linger on a photo, one that sucks us in so we get lost in it – that’s what good photography is to me. It’s a picture that conveys a feeling. The onlooker receives a message and has a moment of relating to the image. The message we all feel is different, as we are all full of different experiences; but we all feel something.

All the pictures you see were taken at Craggy Gardens, just outside of Asheville, NC.

Laura Ellman is a long-time friend of mine, who spoiled me with a visit over the summer. She currently resides in Portland, OR, where she landed after her adventures abroad the previous three years. She spent time in Australia and New Zealand, with many trips in between to other countries like the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Samoa and Italy. During the last bit of her stay in New Zealand, Laura and company adventured around in the luxury of a renovated van. They traveled around both north and south islands of the country, inland and coast.

We should thank her for her travels because she gave us the opportunity to see far-flung destinations through the lens of her camera. Check out her Instagram @lauraloralawruh to get a taste of her vision.

Of course, during her stay in Asheville we had to take a hike to fully introduce her to the Blue Ridge Mountains. We decided to check out Craggy Gardens to enjoy the feelings of time spent in a grassy meadow before summer is over.

Watch the video below to see the best of our day in the sun. Then, get out to Craggy Gardens or your favorite hike. Let us see your adventure by using the hashtag #getoutavl.
