“Two Swim as One” original painting by Jessica Nielsen

How old were you when you first got to decorate your own room? Do you remember what you picked?

Looking back, I remember hanging a poster of a dozen Golden retriever puppies, right beside a poster of N’sync. Imagine that, I woke up to Justin Timberlake AND puppies.

I can still feel the ghost of that joyful pride that filled me every time I laid eyes on this inaugural declaration of my inner self.

Today, the walls of my home are interspersed with both a small collection of artwork, as well many family memories. The feeling born in me when I move through the rooms now and spy my treasures is much the same: radiant joy.

The featured artist for November is a master at spreading happiness through her craft. The reason we picked her for the series is her ability to manifest light in the people she paints for. As she shared with us in our interview, “I never paint when I’m upset.”

Jessica Nielsen is a local painter who’s style is unique, and easily recognizable. The moment I came across her work, I was instantly hooked. That’s why I had to lay claim to a piece for myself, which I will share with you at the end of the series.

Today’s piece is entitled, “Two Swim as One” and is acrylic and mixed media on canvas.

We will be sharing more of Jessica’s collection over the next few weeks, so keep your eyes open. Keep your calendars open as well, as we will be highlighting her studio opening at the beginning of December, so you will have the chance to fill your home, and the homes of the ones you love with a little handmade happiness.
